Longitudinal view of a shoot apex Identify the primordia A diagrammatic view of a terminal portion of a shoot apex showing the region of the apical meristem in the stem from which all primary growth originates. From the apical meristem, three primary meristems, or histogens, are developed. Protoderm gives rise to the tissue that will differentiate as epidermis, procambium gives rise to vascular tissues and ground meristem gives rise to undifferentiated storage tissues such as pith and cortex. Bud and leaf primordia are shown which are the early stages of development into the structures. Imagine what the view of the shoot apex would look like in cross-sectional planes at various levels. |
